In addition to the ministries and activities that
are already listed throughout this website, there are many other
wonderful things going on at Saint Luke's!! Here's a
sampling of other ways in which you can become involved in the life
of our parish:
BLOOD BANK — Each
July and December
(usually during the week before Christmas), Saint Luke Parish
hosts an American Red Cross Blood Drive in our Community Room.
Check the bulletin
or our News and Events
page in early December for the exact date and times.
INTERNATIONAL DINNER
— Once a year, on the Saturday
before Ash Wednesday, we celebrate our roots and show off the
cuisines of our various national heritages at this gala tasting
buffet. Watch the bulletin
after January 1 or check our News
and Events page for more information.
MAILROOM
HELP — Our parish periodically
has a need to communicate with our parishioners through a
large-scale mailing. The volunteer help in our "mailroom"
(which is actually the Rectory dining room!) does all the hands-on
work needed to stuff, seal and label the envelopes in preparation
for the actual mailing. Coffee, goodies and friendly
conversation are always a part of the mix! Call the Parish
Office at (203) 227-7245 to put your name on the roster.
| MONTHLY
COFFEE HOUR — One of our favorites!
From October through April, parishioners gather in our Community
Room (always beautifully decorated for the season!) after the
9:00 and the 11:00 am Masses on Sunday mornings to share some
goodies and catch up on life with one another. We're
always on the lookout for some additional willing hearts and
hands to help with the buying, the decorating and the serving.
If you'd like to help with this wonderful community-building
activity, give us a call at the Parish Office (203) 227-7245. |
NEW HORIZONS (Senior Citizens)
— A very active group of seasoned
parishioners! They have luncheon events in September, December
and May, always with an interesting guest speaker or musical
entertainment, and a Mass and membership breakfast at the beginning
of each Lenten season. Check our
News and Events page for any
upcoming events.
NURSERY — Nursery care is provided for our
youngest parishioners during the 9:00 and 11:00 am Masses each
Sunday. Want to help?
Give us a call at the Parish Office (203) 227-7245.
PARISH PICNIC —
(2nd or 3rd Sunday of September, 12:00 Noon to 4:00 pm) — Long known
around here as
"The best bargain in town," our annual Parish Picnic on the back
lawn of the Rectory is FREE for all registered parishioners.
There's great cookout food, music, games for all ages (including our
famous "Shaving Cream Tug-of-War") and, best of all, a wonderful
opportunity to get to know your fellow parishioners. There's all
kinds of ways to pitch in and help, too. Check out the sign-up
sheets that are posted in the main hallway of the Parish Center from
early August onward.
PARISH NURSE PROGRAM —
Under the auspices of Saint Vincent Hospital, the nurses of our
parish provide free blood pressure screenings after the 9:00
and 11:00 am Masses on the first Sunday of every month. Keep
an eye on the bulletin
or check our News and Events
page for their Annual Health Fair, which includes opportunities for
a number of different health screenings (including cholesterol
checks and mammograms).
